And the shark has teeth... The original Threpenny barrel organ from 1928 live in Basel!
The musicians Agnes Lipka (soprano), David Brooke (tenor), William Cuthbertson (piano) and Stefan Fleck (barrel organ) stage the most popular melodies from the Threepenny Opera, including "Mack the Knife", "Polly Peachum" and "Pirate Jenny". The ensemble of musicians is accompanied by the original barrel organ from 1928. The instrument was commissioned by Kurt Weill and Bertold Brecht and was specially made for the premiere of the Threepenny Opera. Kurt Weill's composition required more semitones than was usual for a barrel organ. The Berlin arranger and barrel organ builder Giovanni Bacigalupo set 23 pieces from the Threepenny Opera for the instrument on three pinned barrels. Including the world-famous The street ballade, "Mack the Knife" This special organ has now found its way to Basel and and excerpts from the Threpenny Opera will be played live for you at the Leonhardskirche, Basel. You can buy tickets here.2022
